Global IT Systems Integrator Completes Large-Scale ServiceNow to ServiceNow Migration Using Precision Bridge
We are delighted to announce that one of our strategic partners, a global IT services integrator, has successfully completed a major ServiceNow to ServiceNow migration project for a major American utility and power company. This important project required the migration of a substantial volume of ITSM, HR, and Procure-to-Pay (P2P) data between ServiceNow instances as part of a Brownfield to Greenfield consolidation project. This included the migration of 2.85 million records plus 15 million audit records, along with 2.3 million attachments, while maintaining complete data integrity and relationship structures across multiple complex modules.
Having previously used Precision Bridge on other projects, our partner selected the Precision Bridge Data Migration Automation platform for its proven ability to handle large-scale ServiceNow migrations with minimal disruption.
Migration Challenges
The migration presented several significant requirements:
The migration of large file attachments caused timeout issues during transfer, which threatened to delay the project timeline
High-volume audit record migration required careful performance optimization to avoid system strain
The project demanded 24/7 monitoring to ensure continuous progress and address issues as they emerged
Complex data relationships across independent tables needed to be preserved, with plain data structures replacing reference-based relationships
All cases required migration regardless of status, adding complexity to the data transformation requirements
The project schedule was fixed, leaving no room for extended delays.
How Precision Bridge Helped Address the Challenges
Our partner leveraged Precision Bridge's out-of-the-box ServiceNow to ServiceNow templates as the foundation for the migration, which provided standard field mappings and enabled the team to focus on project-specific configurations. This template-based approach accelerated the initial setup and reduced the potential for configuration errors.
Working with the Precision Bridge team, an approach was selected that leveraged the platform's source filtering with System IDs to break large migrations into manageable segments based on the first two characters of record identifiers. This technique allowed the migration to proceed in controlled batches, avoiding potential timeout issues typically associated with large file sizes and data volumes, while maintaining data integrity.
Throughout the project, Precision Bridge's support team was available to provide guidance on optimal tuning parameters to maximize performance without overwhelming system resources, including providing tailored solutions for this specific project.
Despite the challenges associated with a large enterprise migration, including large file transfers and audit record volumes, the migration was completed successfully. All 2.85 million primary records, 15 million audit records, and 2.3 million attachments were transferred to the new ServiceNow environment.
Future Collaboration
Having delivered another successful ServiceNow migration project using Precision Bridge, this has added to the momentum of the partnership for future migration projects. They identified potential future use cases including delta migrations of live records, demonstrating confidence in the platform's capabilities for ongoing data management needs.
